Weekly Practice

PATIENCE, KINDNESS, AND GOODNESS: Serve in Secret

AS WE WALK the way of Jesus, we are invited into the new creation patterns of love, blessing, and self-sacrifice. But the old ways of pride, manipulation, and self-centeredness can creep in even as we strive to do good for others. This week, practice serving others in secret, knowing that your only reward will be from your Father, who sees everything we do. Experience the joy of putting other people’s needs before your own: do someone’s laundry; pull a neighbor’s weeds; wash someone’s car; show up to serve at a compassionate ministry; send an anonymous note of encouragement. You may not be able to keep it totally secret, and that’s okay. When you’re found out, don’t seek or bask in credit. Give a simple, humble response, and move on.

Have a blessed week!
