Sermon Title: “Give Thanks to the King”

CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY: Daily Silence

WE ARE TURNING the corner into Advent, the season in which we anticipate Christ’s coming. But we cannot anticipate that of which we are not aware. If we can cultivate awareness of what God is doing, we will naturally respond in love, joy, anticipation, and obedience. But busyness, worry, stress, and entertainment compete to crowd out and dull our awareness of God. So, before the busyness of the coming season gets to you, take time to focus your attention on what is most important. You may even find you want to carry this practice through the season of Advent. This week, carve out some space for awareness in your mind, heart, and body by practicing at least five minutes of silence each day. Set an alarm on your phone or computer to remind you each day. If you are ready to deepen this practice, spend ten or even fifteen minutes in silence each day. To help still your mind, you may repeat this simple prayer: “Holy Spirit, open my eyes and my heart to see you and to want you.”

Have a blessed week!
