PRACTICING WITH SCRIPTURE: Memorize Scripture

FOR THOSE WHO grew up going to Sunday school or competing in Bible quizzing, there may be a lot of memorized Scripture stored away. But for many of us, memorization is a lost art in the age of the Bible app and search engines that can pull up chapter and verse, even with the vaguest of searches. Yet memorizing Scripture offers a gift beyond quick recall or a coveted Sunday school award. The process of memorization allows us to spend time with the words and their meaning so that they weave into our hearts, not just our minds. This week, practice memorizing 2 Peter 1:3. Write the verse and post it all throughout your home, car, and office. Read it each time you see it, until you can say it by memory. As you do, ask that the Spirit will help you experience the truth of the verse.
