Weekly Practice

FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, AND SELF-CONTROL: Fasting

WE DO NOT fast in order to get God’s attention or earn credit with him but to focus our own hearts as we pray. Practice fasting this week, and as you do so, ask the Holy Spirit to give you a desire for God that is greater than your desire for the food from which you are fasting. During times you would normally be eating, pray for a pressing need in your own life or in the life of someone you know. Choose one of these ways to fast this week:

  • Fast one meal each day.
  • Fast for one twenty-four-hour period during the week.
  • Fast from a food that is a regular in your diet (e.g., coffee, bread, meat, etc.).

Have a blessed week!
